Perry Bible Fellowship Comic Strips a
Must-See!
Whoever said newspaper comic strips aren't
funny anymore has not come across Nicholas Gurewitch's comic "Perry
Bible Fellowship". Under publishers such as the New
York Press, and the Rochester Insider,
Gurewitch delivers refreshingly funny strips; each with it's own unique
flavor and humor. The comics are done cleanly, with simple
dialogue, however that only casts a thin veil over the witty and mature
humor beneath. Gurewitch maintains a website hosting
his PBF comic strips, each a hilarious addition to the
archives. Don't just trust me, please see it for
yourself! Also, don't forget to check out the short films by
Nicholas Gurewitch.

Okinawan Festival in Hawai'i 2004
September 5th and 6th was time for the
Annual Okinawan Festival in Hawai'i. The event took place in Kapiolani
Park, near Waikiki. The festival brought many items of the Okinawan
culture. The trademark Okinawan "andagi", an edible snack much like a
doughnut hole but harder, was sold in the festival. Other Okinawan
foods such as their soba was also sold throughout the park. The
festival continued into the evening with the Bon dance, which everyone
was welcome to participate in. The Bon dance was then followed by a
concert from Okinawa's own band, BEGIN, shown to
the left. BEGIN talked about wanting to visit Hawai'i to thank them for
shipping all the pigs over to Okinawa, when Okinawa ran short on their
pork supply (history lesson). BEGIN gave an excellent performance to an
enthusiastic crowd. They ended the concert by singing their most
popular songs, Shimanchu no Takara, followed by Nagasousou (sung at the
2003 Red and White festival in Japan). BEGIN members were seen shopping
in Ala Moana today. They were not hassled by many others as they blend
in quite well with the Japanese tourists that frequent the mall.
